Khimsar Fort And Sand Dune -Desert Paradise

Are you looking for a place to chill and relax, which is far away from the hustle and bustle of city traffic and which give you living in a desert vibe but in luxury style? Then Khimsar Fort and Sand Dune Village is the best place for you.

Khimsar or Khinvsar (which is the actual name called by the locals) is a village in Naguar district which is about 50 miles from Jodhpur, Rasjasthan. The fort here is the main tourist attraction which is now converted into a luxury hotel.

I got an opportunity to go there and relax and have fun with my girl gang. We were really excited to experience the luxury. We rented a Rajasthan Tourism vehicle as we were 8 girls. As we thought it would be safer to rent a vehicle from a trusted service provider. So, we started our journey at about 7 am. It was one and a half hour journey from Jodhpur. And we packed some snacks with us to munch on the way  to Khimsar.

On the way to Khimsar we told the driver to stop at Naguar bus stand because the pakora's you get in Naguar, are the best. I would highly  recommend it you must taste it.

As we were munching, singing and talking all the way, we didn't even realize that we reached the destination. We entered the fort gate and the royal feels started to hit us. We were already feeling like queens. The gate keeper greeted us and took us inside. The interior was beautiful ,the flower designs on the ceiling and the furniture really took all my attention.

One of my friend talked to the manager about the fort and details of our trip. So we were staying at the hotel for few hours only as it was just a one day trip. We didn't book any rooms at the hotel as we were not planning to stay. But if you are planning to stay for a day or two you can book a luxury room  which starts from Rs. 7500 onward for two people which includes breakfast and other luxury. You can easily customize your reservation as per your likes.

We took a look around the fort. The fort was pretty huge with different areas for a particular activity. Like they had section for stay which included the rooms. Then there was huge garden area where you can have a cup of tea and relax . Then there is pool area which only had access to the people who stayed at the hotel. And then there was dining area and the terrace from you could see the whole fort premises.

There was a little performance area too in the fort which had this beautiful wall of red flowers. It was really a pretty background  for taking pictures. So guess what, we took a group picture.

We took a lot of selfies in every area of the fort as it was so beautiful. After a while we were called out for lunch by one of the staff around 2 pm. We were starving to death by then.

We head to the dining area which was called Vansh which translates to family lineage which was another luxury experience. It was buffet lunch. There were waiters dressed in typical Rajasthani attire with safa(turbun) on their heads. The food was typical Rajasthani cuisine which is one of my favorite cuisine of all.

The food included 3 curries (shahi paneer, gatte ki sabji a typical rajasthani dish and daal), kurkuri bhindi(which was one of the specialties of the fort cuisines), a glass of butter milk, 2 types of salads -one was fruit and the other one was vegetable ,and  then there was pulav, 2 types of naan, papad, 2 sweet dishes - Gajar ka halwa and khir which was delicious. And you can eat as much you want.

The staff was so friendly and eager to serve you. They kept on serving different dishes in between and made us taste everything. The whole meal was heavenly. And we had our tummy burst with this delicious meal.

While getting out from the fort we saw their collection of vintage cars and bikes showcased in showrooms.

Khimsar Sand Dune Village

After the meal we had some rest and then we went to another tourist attraction Khimsar Sand Dune village which was 15 min ride from the Khimsar fort. You can ask locals for the way to the sand dunes because GPS ditches (we tired ).

This village and sand dunes are all human created. Yeah! Its not a natural sand dune that you see in a desert but it's a replica of that, created to attract tourist. You can enjoy desert safari here and you can stay in these little mud huts too (which are called Dhani huts). The stay in mud huts will cost Rs.10500 onwards for 2 people. It has all the luxury you need  inside.

The guards at the village didn't allow us to walk on these sand as it leaves foot marks on it and its human made sand dunes so the marks won't fade away naturally as it happens in the desert. The staff there clear these out by themselves to make these  sand dunes remain in its shape.

There's this pond area in the village itself where you can sit for while and relax watching the ducks swimming in the pond. The whole experience is very relaxing. Good place to have some tea and read. We just wished we had more time to stay because we haven't had enough. But we had to leave 🙁

So that's how our trip ended with a beautiful view.
