Pune is a sprawling city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. My brother lives there so the main reason for my mum to go there with me was to see her son, which wasn't my purpose at all. You guys know how bro-sis relationship is like. All I was excited about was that I'll get a new place and people to experience.
So, I and mum packed our bags and head to Pune from Jodhpur in the train which takes almost 22 hours to reach Pune Junction.
The journey was pleasant until a little robbery thing happened with us during sleep at night. Yeah! someone stole mums handbag and other passengers purses and stuff too at kalyan junction . My mum just freaked out with the incident and I didn't knew what to do . I called the helpline number they have written in every coach for emergencies but nobody answered that so I used social media twitter to get in touch with the railway authority.
I twitted the incident to the Railway Minister and instantly I got a reply from them asking my phone number and current location. I instantly got a call from Maharashtran Railway Police , on the next station they came to our coach and asked all the details and told us to file a complaint in Pune Police station. They were really kind and polite . They also said its a main area for robbers, many cases has been registered daily, so if you are going by train please be careful and keep your costly stuff safe.
We felt releaved although we knew we are not going to get back the money that we lost that day but still its a relief when someone is doing something to easy the situation.
So after all this drama, panicking and lost sleep we finally reached the destination Pune. We head to the railway police station which is at the railway station only and filed a complaint.
We were really tired so we directly head to my brother's place and took a long peaceful sleep after all the chaos.
Day 1 Pune: A little roam around.
We started our day with the places nearby. First, we went to Amanora Mall which is one of the biggest malls in Pune. There is a different section of this mall all filled with shops of a different brand, some entertainment centers, and food courts. We took a look around the mall and did some shopping too. It took almost 3 hours to roam around every corner of it.
We head to the food court to have some lunch. We went to Chopstick Spice Malabar to have some Keralian food, the Malayali girl in me was missing eating typical Keralian food so we ordered Malabar paratha, vegetable stew, rice, and buttermilk. The buttermilk is not the typical sour buttermilk we have here in north India. In Kerala, we have it spicy as they add green chilies and chopped onion in it. It's really good for digestion. The food was really yummy and my inner Malayali girl was satisfied. I recommend you guys to try food from here.
Day 2 Pune: Site seeing
So the next day we started our day little early at about 6 in the morning we already had our Ola cab booked. We started our journey to Lonavala. We were halfway to reach Lonavala and we saw a car rushing towards us at full speed and overtaking us. The guy who was driving that car told our driver to stop on the side of the road. We were surprised and confused by the event that just happened. We didn't know what was wrong why he stopped us. Then the driver told us he was some private cab driver.H e said that the company cabs like ola and uber are not allowed to drive outside Pune.
So we asked how can we continue our journey then? He arranged a private cab for us and we continued from there. We asked what was it all about why didn't they allow another company cab outside Pune? He told us that it's affecting the wages of private cab drivers these companies are making the profit and the private drivers are not getting any money these days. So they just don't allow these Ola drivers. He also told us that usually they break the glasses of cars or puncture the tire of cars, we were really lucky that didn't happen with us. So I would suggest choosing private cab to go outside Pune.
This driver was actually nice he told us that he will show 4 major tourist points to us.
So our first point was Rajmachi Point. It is located on the way to Mumbai from Pune, just before the starting point of the ghat in Khandala. This place was really beautiful with the mesmerizing view from above. This place also has a temple and a children's park. There were monkeys roaming all around the place.
Next, we head to see Bhushi Dam which was 30 km from Rajmachi Point another famous place filled with tourists and locals. The water falling from the dam to the steps looks really pretty. Its a must see the place.
Next, we went to Lion Point which was 5.9 km from bushi dam. This was again a sightseeing place. With a mesmerizing view of the waterfall and mountains. You can also do camel riding here. We had some nimbu pani (Lemonade) and soak ourselves into the view.
Before heading to the next spot we stopped at Hotel Rama Krishna which was recommended by our driver. They had both north and south Indian food, we south Indians prefer dosa where ever we go as its comfort food. We ordered a plain and a masala dosa and coffee. The food was really good and the rates were cheap too.
Next, our driver recommended visiting Narayani Temple. This temple is really beautiful and well maintained it has rooms for staying purpose for pilgrims. It's a must visit place highly recommended. The idols of goddesses were really breathtaking and the environment was really calm and soothing. It just takes away all your stress and worries. They have food arrangements also inside the temple premises.
Day 3 Pune: Trip to Mahabaleshwar
We started our trip early at 6 am this time too as we had to go a long way to Mahabaleshwar which is 200km from Pune. We again booked a private cab and head to Mahabaleshwar. We had our breakfast from Vithal Kamat's where we had poha and upma, the food was great but the service was really slow, in the end, we had to go by our-self to the counter to take our order as there was no one to bring it to us.
On the road to Mahabaleshwar, you will see boards of the company called Mapro all over the place. There is Mapro garden which is a famous tourist attraction. They have a beautiful garden filled with flowers. This garden is actually famous for strawberry cultivation. They have a food court also where they serve fresh strawberry ice-cream and jams which are cultivated in the garden itself. You can have the true taste of strawberries here and you can take some with yourself too. It's a strawberry heaven.
After having ice-cream from the Mapro garden. We head to the Mahabaleshwar Shiv Temple. There are so many tourists and locals coming to visit the temple, it almost took an hour extra to reach there because of the rush. Finally, we reached there and we went inside the temple you are not allowed to take pictures inside the temple. There's an alley of shop surrounding the temple. People selling different decorative items, clothes, and hats.
A little walking distance from the shiv temple there is The Panchganga Temple which is constructed at the confluence of five rivers, Krishna, Veena, Savitri, Koyna, and Gayatri. You can drink the holy water inside the temple.
After the darshan of Lord Shiva, we continued our journey back covering one more point which was Venna Lake another tourist Spot which is 500 km from Mahabaleshwar Temple, Gokran.
This place offers boating in Venna Lake. You can rent a Family boat, semi-automatic boat or you can have a pedal boat for yourself for 3 hours. Its risky with no professional with you to guide to help in any dangerous situation. But if are careful you can easily handle it. I would recommend the family boat or semi-automatic for the people who don't know swimming at all and for those are with small kids. As the water is really deep you can easily drown in it and they don't provide any safety jackets so basically you are at your own risk.
It's a mesmerizing view if you can really be careful with handling the boat.
So this is how our journey ended with the beautiful misty clouds and the soothing waves of Venna lake.
This was a really great experience for me we enjoyed a lot and had a family time together after so long. Hope, you guys enjoyed reading it too 🙂
